02/11/2018 - College PREP - Monticello, IA Jacob is a SS/C graduating in 2019. In the field, Jacob shows a quick, loose arm action, throwing from a low 3/4 arm slot and making consistently accurate throws. With an added pre pitch routine and presenting his glove sooner, Jacob could reach more balls in the field and make more plays. Behind the plate, Jacob shows flexibility, quick feet and has a quiet body as he gets into a low fielding position. Jacob does a good job protecting the 5 hole, recovering the ball well. He makes clean exchanges with a short, loose arm action from a high 3/4 arm slot. His throws are accurate to his targets, showing a quick release and throwing the ball on a line. With less steps on throw downs, Jacob could lower his pop times and increase his chances of throwing runners out. At the plate, Jacob shows a square set up with a short, square stride and a good load. He uses good center balance to make square contact and uses a line drive approach toward the middle of the field. With a stronger lower half and a more direct swing path, Jacob could hit the ball harder and more consistently. With another year of development, Jacob could play at the next level.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
