03/15/2015 - College PREP - Plainview (Lubbock), TX Jacob is a lean, athletic RHP/2B that will graduate in 2016. Foot speed is solid as indicated by his 7.39 60 time. At 2B, defensive grade are slightly above average as he displays smooth / fluid actions. He works to get around ground balls through proper angles and squares up well, presenting clean hands well out front. He shows off his athletic abilities on his feeds / turns of the double play. Throws are accurate but needs to build more arm strength through a long toss program. At the plate, he shows a squared / athletic setup and an aggressive approach. Hands are loose and work through a level swing path. He makes consistent contact, mainly to the pull side. For hitting grade to continue to improve, he needs to work to keep hands inside the ball to utilize all fields. Power number will continue to improve as he works to use his lower half more efficiently. On the mound, fastball shows a range of 68-70 mph with arm side run. Breaking ball displays 10/4 shape with gradual break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup, showing a feel for but needs to develop more movement on pitch. Stock to the mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength and works to throw more strikes. Jacob has abilities with a lot of room to improve.

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
