Official Scouting Report

  • 1BPosition Projection

01/12/2018 - 2018 Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament Jacob made his second appearance at the UAAAPS Tournament with Baseball Factory, and showed consistency on both sides of the ball. Defensively, he worked his feet pre-pitch and made plays, with a clean exchange. His feet worked well around the bag at first, and he was a good target to throw to at 6'3/175 lbs. At the dish, he had a square setup and took a short stride to get ready to hit. He displayed a level barrel through the zone and made line-drive contact. In all - Jacob continues to show improvements to his game, and remains as a strong athlete that moves very well for a 1B, proving he's ready for the next level.

01/13/2017 - Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament Jacob competed again as a two-way player at his most recent Baseball Factory event, the UAPSAA. Offensively, he had balance and kept a level/on-plane bat path through the zone. He flashed quick hands and barrel whip and was fluid/smooth with his rhythm & timing. At 1B, he prepped his feet in anticipation of plays and worked effectively with his feet around the bag. He centered ground balls to his body and threw across the diamond from a high 3/4 slot. On the hill, he competed with his FB, locating the pitch on both sides of the plate with feel. He was very controlled with his delivery and rotated to his target finishing with his chest over his front knee. All in all - with a 6'3/165 lbs frame, this junior has a promising spring season ahead of him.

10/26/2016 - Under Armour SoCal Classic, powered by Baseball Factory's Team One Jacob is a tall/lean 1B and RHP who will graduate in 2018. Defensively, he showed fluid footwork and worked around the bag well at first base. Hands were smooth and presented out in front, as he adjusted to hops very well. Offensively, starting in a tall setup, he showed an on time stride/load and quick hands (87 mph exit velocity). Keeping his back elbow tighter on his swing will help him stay inside the ball more consistently. Also a pitcher, he showed a strong balance point, a good stride and a clean arm swing. He featured 3 pitches from a 3/4 arm angle, including a low to mid 70's fastball, a slider and a splitter. Jacob has a good baseball frame, and with still room to grow as a player, he will certainly be on the radar of collegiate coaches in his next few years.

10/02/2016 - National Tryout - Kansas City, KS Jacob is a projectable R/R 1B who has a solid all-around skill-set. Defensively, he shows active prep as he works into a square fielding position. He presents his mitt and tracks the GB into his glove, making the plays with soft hands. He has quick footwork around the bag and adjusts well to throws up and down the line. With the bat, this righty has a balanced/crouched setup with a solid base. He waits for a pitch he likes and barrels it up with pop, driving it to the gaps. Even more power potential is there by loosening/relaxing his grip and engaging his full lower 1/2 throughout the swing. This 6'3"/165 1B has a bright future as he continues to develop on the diamond.

06/10/2016 - 2016 Under Armour Southeast Championships 16U Participant Tall, lanky frame, shows good range at first, not afraid to go get the ball, huge target at first, shows pull side power, good barrel awareness, quiet setup, good bat whip through zone, runs well for his size, good upside.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
