06/03/2017 - 2017 Under Armour Showcase: Baseball Factory's National West Jacob is an athletic, well-built catching prospect who has an above average skill set on both sides of the ball. Behind the plate, Jacob has strong, solid base presenting a low, effective target. He moves swiftly with light footwork and agile body control. He receives the ball with a firm glove and has a good rhythm with a quick, clean exchange. Jacob does a nice job blocking the baseball as he is quick to his knees and directs everything to the center. He throws with a quick release and short arm action from an over the top slot. His throws are consistently strong with POP times ranging from 1.95-2.07 seconds. Offensively, Jacob has a tall, athletic stance with his weight in the front of his stance. He shows fast bat speed with a direct swing path getting good extension with his hands. He has a middle of the field approach and consistently lands the barrel to the baseball. Jacob is a line drive type hitter who has the ability to spray the ball to all fields. Overall, Jacob is a polished catching prospect who can hit giving him good upside to make a difference at the next level.

01/29/2017 - College PREP - Kapolei (Honolulu), HI Jacob is a lean, athletic catching prospect who is very advanced defensively for his age. He is a wall behind the dish, blocking with ease and keeping everything in front while showing the arm to shut down the running game. He has quick feet and agile actions to get out of his stance to block quickly and sits low and athletically to receive with soft hands. He gains ground and has a quick exchange and release to show off his strong, accurate arm down to second (1.96 pop time). His setup is athletic at the plate with centered balance and smooth actions to swing. His lower half works well to generate bat speed and he works on a level path to the ball. Getting his hands moving earlier will allow him to get through the zone faster and make more hard contact. Jacob is a very exciting prospect for the next level.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
