03/25/2018 - College PREP - Mill Valley (San Francisco), CA Jacob is a tall, lanky built outfield prospect who has a well-rounded game. As a right-handed hitter, Jacob has a square setup with his weight on his heels. He takes a short stride and partially uses his lower half throughout his swing. Jacob does a nice job engaging his hips throughout his swing. He is a contact type hitter who looks to put the ball in play. In the field, Jacob plays with firm footwork and covers good ground. He fields the ball in square position with a firm glove. Jacob has a loose arm action throwing from a 3/4 arm slot. He is developing arm strength and working to play through the ball. Overall, Jacob has the right approach on both sides of the ball and potential to get even better.

11/05/2015 - Baseball Factory Select Training & Competition in Arizona Jacob continues to show progress in his baseball. In the OF, he takes proper routes / angles in tracking down balls and is aggressive in attacking ground balls. He makes the routine plays, utilizing 2 hands well through the fielding process. Defensive grade will continue to improve as he works to get behind balls and plays through with momentum to his target and increase foot quickness. Throws are accurate but needs to build more arm strength through a long toss program. At the plate, he shows a closed setup with balance. Hands are loose and work through a level swing path. He makes consistent contact, mainly to the pull side. Hitting grade will continue to improve as he works to keep hands inside the ball to utilize all fields. Power numbers will increase as he works to utilize his lower half more aggressively through his lower half. Mental makeup is a plus as he is very coachable and works hard to be the best player he can be.

09/13/2015 - College PREP - Fresno, CA Jacob is a R/R OF who graduates in 2019. Defensively, he shows active footwork and hustles to track down fly-balls to his right and left. He secures the ball with 2-hands, gathers well and has a clean exchange to throw. Continuing to develop his routes/angles to fly-balls will help to take his OF skills to the next level. With the bat, Jacob shows a balanced setup with patience as he waits for his pitch. He barrels the ball up and uses the middle of the field. Swinging on a shorter/more direct path along with engaging more of his lower 1/2 will help to improve his offensive skills. Only a 2019 grad - Jimenez still has a ton of time to develop his tools on the diamond.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
