He works to get around balls and moves well laterally, flashing range. Hands are soft / clean as he presents on time. He shows off his athletic abilities on the slow roller play. At the plate, he shows an athletic setup with rhythm. Hands are quick and work through a level swing path. He works to stay inside the ball and has strength in his swing, displaying gap to gap pop.

09/19/2015 - College PREP - Detroit, MI Jacob is a lean C/IF that will graduate in 2017. In the IF, feet are active as he works to square balls up, displaying clean hands and proper footwork. At the plate, he shows an athletic / squared setup and he tracks the ball well. Hands are aggressive and work through a level swing path. He makes consistent contact, mainly to the pull side. Hitting grade will continue to improve as he works to keep hands inside the ball, utilizing all fields. Power numbers will increase has works to utilize his lower half more aggressively. With 2 years to further develop, Jacob has abilities with time and room to continue to improve.

06/06/2015 - College PREP - Detroit, MI Martin continues to show well on the diamond. Behind the dish, he sits in well and sticks pitches in the zone. Quick footwork allow him to get around pitches in the dirt, centering them off of his chest. Exchange is clean with accurate throws to 2B, pop times of 1.97. Runners will not want to test his arm. At 3B, Martin shows active prep working on the balls of his feet. He moves well glove-side, gets his shoulders in-line and gains ground toward his target. Offensively, this RHH has a balanced setup with rhythm in his hands. Swing is level as he connects and drives the ball back up the middle of the field. More power potential is there with more lower 1/2 drive. Jacob is a hard worker who will make an impact on the diamond.

09/21/2014 - College PREP - Detroit, MI Jacob is a solid backstop with a consistent approach at the plate. Defensively, he has good body control with his hands and feet working in-sync. His quiet yet quick footwork lead to his 2.16-2.2 pop times. Increasing his arm strength and quickness will help those pop times to continue to drop. At the plate, he has a square setup where he tracks the ball well. Barrel delivery is level as he connects and drives through the contact point. Staying back and becoming more balanced will give Jacob a more consistent swing path resulting in more offensive success. Jacob is a young, 2017 grad who still has a lot of time to develop his skills.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
