12/17/2011 - Pirate City Christmas Camp and Tournament - Session 1 Remington showed similar abilities as we had previously seen in Rochester, NY. He showed for the first time at SS. On the mound, he delivers from a low 3/4 arm slot and has a solid pitchers build. His fastball shows a range of 75-82 mph, and if he can keep it down in the zone it has some life. Breaking ball displays downward tilt with tight spin and shows potential as being a quality pitch when he get extension out front. It ranges from 68-69 mph. Defensively at SS, his feet are active as he works around balls to play through in a low approach. Hands are clean but needs to work on softening hands, present more out front and improve foot speed to improve defensive abilities. Throws are accurate with carry across the diamond as he displays a strong arm. At the plate, Jacob shows a balanced approach and uses his lower half well. Hands are quick, flashing bat speed through a level swing path. Power numbers will continue to improve as he learns to load more and transfer weight properly through his lower half. Jacob is a very coachable kid and will continue to improve in his game.

11/13/2011 - College PREP - Rochester, NY Jake is a thick and strong right handed pitcher that will graduate in 2013. On the mound, he shows a repeatable delivery with solid mechanics throughout. He has a clean arm circle getting good extension at release. He throws from a 3/4 arm slot with his fastball ranging in the 82-83 mph range with some arm side run and command to both sides of the plate. His best off speed pitch is his slider throwing it with good arm speed, strong break and 11/5 shape to it. He also throws a changeup that shows arm side run but he needs to command it better in the zone. Jake needs to continue to work on keeping his eyes on target throughout his delivery which will help maintain consistency in his delivery. He also needs to get on a long toss program to help increase his arm strength. Jake is a player to follow this upcoming season.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
