10/28/2015 - Under Armour SoCal Classic, powered by Baseball Factory's Team One Jacob shows signs of a next level player with his solid outing at the SoCal Classic. On the bump, he continues to pound the zone with his low 80's FB and fools hitters with a 2-pitch off speed mix. He uses his tall, lanky frame to create a steep downward angle, making it tough for hitters to touch. At 1B, he presents a tall, active target with soft hands. He moves well around the bag with the ability to go get throws and pick it. Offensively, he is aggressive and steps into the box looking to swing it at 1st pitch FB's. He is a free swinger and takes a hack. The ball jumps off of his barrel when centered as he uses the whole field (exit velocity = 88 mph) . Overall, Jacob is a passionate player with a willingness to learn and improve his abilities. He has a ton of upside with a bright future ahead of him in the game.

09/27/2015 - College PREP - Pittsburgh, PA Jacob is a tall, lean RHP/1B that will graduate in 2017 with a promising future on the diamond. Currently, he projects best on the mound for the next level. Arm strength is solid as indicated by his top velocity of 84 mph. Fastball shows a range of 81-84 mph with solid sinking action. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with gradual break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup but need to develop more movement on pitch. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program and works to throw more strikes. At 1B, defensive abilities are slightly above average, displaying smooth / fluid actions. Footwork around the bag is solid as he is a quality receiver, displaying clean hands. He moves well laterally, displaying range and consistently showed the ability to pick balls out of the dirt, saving throws. At the plate, he continues to shine through an athletic setup. Hands are quick, flashing bat speed through a level swing path. He has strength in his swing with baseball jumping off as he works to stay inside the ball, displaying gap to gap pop. With 2 years to further develop, Jacob has the makings of a special type player and will get looks form the college coaches as he continues to develop, possibly as a two-way guy.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
