Official Scouting Report

  • 5Class Rating
  • 3B/RHPPosition Projection

01/26/2020 - College PREP - San Diego, CA Jacob is a lean, athletic 3B/RHP who has a promising future on the diamond. Foot speed is outstanding as indicated by his 60 time of 6.99. At 3B, he displays clean / smooth actions. Feet are active as he displays proper footwork as he works to square ground balls up and plays through with his body. Glove action is firm and presents well out front. Range is a plus as he moves well laterally and covers a lot of ground. At the plate, he continues to shine through an athletic setup. Hands are quick and work through a level swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. Lower half works well through the swing and he shows a feel for the barrel. On the mound, fastball shows a range of 69-70 mph with arm side run. Breaking ball displays 10/4 shape with big early break. He throws a cutter that appears to be in developmental stages. Control is solid as he throws strikes with all his pitches. Stock to the mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength. Jacob has potential with time and room to progress his game.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
