Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • 2B/RHPPosition Projection

01/13/2017 - Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament Jacob is a projectable 2B/RHP prospect who has a talented skill offensively and defensively. As a right-handed hitter, Jacob has an athletic, square setup with a centered balance and firm front side. He has fluid rhythm with a good load and short, square stride. Jacob shows above average bat speed and has strength behind his swing. He has whip in his swing and gets extension at contact. Jacob gets backspin on the baseball and drives it to each gap. In the field, Jacob plays with fluid footwork and agile actions giving him above average range in each direction laterally. He fields the ball athletically with soft hands and a clean exchange. Jacob has a short, loose arm action throwing from a high 3/4 slot. He plays with momentum towards his target through his release showing strong, accurate throws across the diamond. On the mound, Jacob has an athletic, on-time delivery throwing with a quick arm action from a high 3/4 slot. He extends through his release and stays square with the proper stride length. Jacob effectively rotates towards his target and finishes with his chest over his front knee. His curveball is sharp breaking. Overall, Jacob has a well-round skill set and certainly has the ability to impact a program at the next level.

12/20/2016 - Baseball Factory Christmas Camp & Tournament at Pirate City - Session 1 Jacob is a very hard working, coachable player who showed very well during his time at Pirate City. With the bat, this athletic/strong RHH stands in well with fluid rhythm to load. He takes and aggressive hack with quick hands, whipping the barrel and connecting with pop (exit velocity = 87 mph). He does a very nice job of hitting the ball where it's pitched, spraying it to all parts of the field (3 for 5 with 3 singles and a walk). In the MIF, Jacob has athletic/fluid actions working well from right to left around the GB. He picks it with soft hands and has a clean exchange to throw with a cannon for an arm (90 mph). Jacob also showed his versatility with his ability to get on the mound and pound the zone with strikes. He attacks hitters and challenges them to swing the bat. Jacob is a talented athlete who has the skill-set and drive that will translate well into the next level.

10/23/2016 - College PREP - Conroe (Houston), TX Jacob is a tall, lean OF/2B who has a bright future on the diamond. Foot speed is well above average as indicated by his 60 time of 7.06. In the OF, defensive abilities are well above average as he displays smooth / fluid actions. Range is a plus as he reads balls well off the bat and covers a lot of ground. He takes proper routes / angles in working to get behind balls and plays through with momentum to his target. At 2B, he has active prep and picks out the hops well. He makes the plays with soft hands, gathers well and works in-line toward his target at 1B. Arm strength is well above average as indicated by his top velocity of 86 mph. At the plate, he continues to shine through an athletic setup. Hands are quick (86 mph exit velocity) and work through an aggressive swing path. He has strength in swing with power showing best to the pull side. Jacob has the makings of a special type player and will catch the eyes of the collegiate coaches with his baseball abilities.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
