Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • RHP/SSPosition Projection

08/02/2018 - Baseball Factory Pro Select Training & Tournament at Historic Dodgertown (Ages 14-18) Jacob is a lean, athletic two-way player with lots of potential on the field and the work ethic to meet that potential. He shows feel to hit with the ability to consistently barrel the ball up and flash pop to the pull side. He looks to do damage with every swing and works on a direct path to the ball to cover the whole zone. He makes square contact on a consistent basis to hit the ball hard for base hits. At short, he works well around the bag, showing feel for the position and turning a quick DP. His hands are soft and clean to field to play tough hops and make the hard plays up the middle. He shows presence on the mound and controls the game with his tempo and feel for sequencing pitches. He shows a fastball and sinker with good downward action and an 11-5 curveball that he commands well. Adding a third pitch will allow him to get through a lineup with less stress. Jacob is a talented, young prospect with a high ceiling in the game.

02/11/2018 - College PREP - Monticello, IA Jacob is an athletic RHP/SS graduating in 2021. At shortstop, Jacob has efficient feet and centers himself on ground balls. Jacob makes plays as he gets into a square fielding position. By developing a pre pitch routine and presenting his hands earlier, Jacob could make harder to reach plays in the infield. He shows a long arm action from a high 3/4 arm slot, making consistently accurate throws to his targets. At the plate, Jacob shows a strong line drive approach. He shows an athletic, open set up with a short, square stride and a good load. He shows a smooth rhythm and keeps his balance in the center of his body. Jacobs lower half stays through throughout his swing and has a direct swing path allowing him to hit the ball square. On the mound, he shows a good pace and a strong front side. Jacob has a FB, CB and CH in his arsenal. With more leg drive and a looser arm action, Jacob could add more velocity to his pitches. With another three years of development, along with added size and strength from natural growth, Jacob could play at the next level.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "present" abilities (tools), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year, using the scale below. However, grades 10-18 are not available for use with High School players (ages 14-18), while grades 55-70 are not available for use with Pre High School players (ages 12-14). These instances are marked as "--- N/A ---" in the "Description" fields below.
