07/27/2021 - Baseball Factory National World Series at Pirate City - Session 1 (HS) Jacob continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. Behind the plate, feet are active as he works in line through a clean transfer / exchange. Pop times have improved as he threw his lowest time to date at 2.25 and will continue to drop as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. He shows a squared setup and presents a soft mitt out front and utilizes his body through the blocking process, centering balls well out front. At the plate, he shows an open setup. Hands are quick and work through level swing path. He makes consistent hard contact and stays inside the ball through a line drive approach, flashing gap to gap pop. On the mound, arm strength has improved as he threw his top velocity to date at 74 mph. Breaking ball displays 12/6 shape with gradual break. Control is well above average as he attacks hitters and throws strikes with all his pitches. Stock on the mound will continue to improve as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program.

11/08/2019 - Baseball Factory Select Training & Competition in Arizona (Ages 14-18) Jacob continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. Behind the dish, pop times have improved as he threw his lowest time to date at 2.19 with accuracy on his throws and gets rid of the baseball quickly. Times will continue to drop as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. He shows a solid setup and presents a low target. He utilizes his body well through the blocking process, centering balls well out front. At the plate, he shows a squared setup. He has fluid rhythm while getting good hand separation. Hands are loose and work through a level swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. Power will increase as he utilizes his lower half more efficiently. On the mound, fastball showed a range of 71-73 mph with arm side run. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with gradual break. Getting on a long toss program to develop more arm strength will aid in improving abilities on the mound. Mental makeup is a plus as he is very coachable and is a solid team player.

07/09/2019 - California Select Training & Competition - Session 2 (Ages 14-18) Jacob is a coachable C/RHP prospect who worked hard on his skills during the California Select Training & Competition. Behind the plate, Jacob sits in a relaxed stance and receives with a quiet glove. He replaces feet to throw and keeps his throws on the 2B bag. He move efficiently to block and covers up well. At the plate, this RHH sets up in a tall stance and takes a square stride. He shows a fluid rhythm and takes a level swing, leading to solid line drives. On the mound, Jacob gathers over the rubber and separates his hands on time. He works with a loose arm and stays inline towards the plate, finishing with a controlled landing. Jacob shows a three pitch mix with his fastball topping out at 73mph. Breaking ball sits from 58-61mph with 11-5 break. Knuckle ball sits from 67-69mph with some movement. With three more years to develop, Jacob has the time and potential to further progress his skills on the field.

06/14/2019 - Baseball Factory Select Training at the College World Series (Ages 14-18) Jacob is a lanky C/RHP that will graduate in 2022. Behind the dish Jacob shows a high energy motor. His exchanges are clean with a good arm action. He shows good defensive skills centering the ball in the dirt. Getting a long toss program should help improve his arm strength. At the plate Jacob sets up in a slightly open stance with loose hands. His load is small with a short stride and gets his foot down on time. He fires his hips and hands through well creating good bat speed and consistent contact. On the mound Jacob shows great command of a 3-pitch mix with a FB,CB,KN. The Fb has some slight tail, CB has 11-5 shape with swing and misses, and a knuckle for strikes. Jacob can improve with a good strength and conditioning program and with several years to develop Jacob has time to grow.

05/25/2019 - College PREP - Salt Lake City, UT Jacob is a lean, athletic C/RHP who has a promising future on the diamond. Behind the plate, feet are active as he works in line through a quick transfer / exchange. Pop times show a range of 2.34-2.52 with accuracy on his throws. Times will continue to drop as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. He sticks balls well in the zone, displaying soft glove and sticking balls well in the zone. He utilizes his body well and creates good angles through the blocking process, centering balls well out front. At the plate, he shows an open setup. Hands are quick and work through an aggressive swing path. He has strength in his swing and makes hard contact with power showing best to the pull side. On the mound, delivery is sound / repeatable allowing his arm action to work free to the plate. Fastball showed a range of 71-72 mph. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with late depth. He maintains arm speed on his knuckleball and shows a good feel for pitch with sinking action. Control is solid as he throws strikes with all his pitches. Stock on the mound will continue to improve as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. With 3 years to further develop, Jacob has potential with time and room to progress his game.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
