Official Scouting Report

01/18/2019 - 2019 Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament Jacob is a top prospect on the diamond. At the plate, he has strong/centered balance with fluid rhythm to load. Hands are quick (85 mph exit velocity) and stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields with gap-to-gap pop. In the MIF, he has plus lateral range working from the ground up with smooth actions. Transfer is quick as he fires strong throws (90 mph velocity) zipping across the diamond. On the mound, he continues to shine. Fastball showed a range of 83-86 mph. Breaking ball displays 12/6 shape with downward break. He maintains arm speed on hi/s changeup with tailing. Control is outstanding as he throws strikes with all his pitches. Jacob has the makings of a special type player and will gets looks from the collegiate coaches with his baseball abilities, possibly as a two-way guy.

01/15/2016 - Baseball Factory All-America Pre-Season Rookie Tournament Jacob Wilson is a 5'9/150 lbs SS/RHP that showed very strongly on the hill at the Baseball Factory All-America Pre-Season Rookie Tournament. On the mound, he threw a heavy FB from 81-83, spun a 12/6 CB with late/sharp break from 64-66, and showed a CH from 70-71. He worked downhill to pound the zone and got his hips engaged to deliver with lower half strength. He showed good rhythm/tempo in his delivery and finished with his chest over his front knee. He threw a 3 inning outing and struck out 6, while walking only 1. Offensively, he showed a level path to hit and tracked the ball to contact. He was direct with the barrel and showed good hand/hip coordination to get through the zone. Defensively at short, he worked through the ball to make plays with a sure glove. He used the proper footwork after securing the ball and followed his on-line throws to his targets. All in all - Jacob is a coachable ball player with good aptitude and a lot of projection, especially on the mound.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
