Since his last event, Jacoby has improved his fielding, arm, and his 60-time. Defensively, he showed that he creates good angles and comes through the ball well. Jacoby's defensive skills should continue to develop as he learns not to drift back on fly balls and improve his arm slot. At the plate, he stays inside the ball and hits against a firm front side. His tools at the plate should continue to progress as he learns to stay through the hitting zone and create a downhill approach to the ball. As a graduating senior, Jacoby has the opportunity to showcase his skills and continue to develop those skills in preparation for the next level.
08/10/2011 - Pirate City World Series 2011 - Session 2
Jacoby continues to improve his overall game. He was able to lower his sixty time into the 6.94 range, showed much more arm strength and made a big jump in his defensive evaluation. He shows great athletic ability getting good reads on the ball and taking good angles. He has a solid first step making a clean exchange to throw the ball. Defensively he needs to continue to work on raising his arm slot to have a better downhill action to his throw. At the plate he continues to show improvement with good balance throughout his swing with the ability to hit the ball to all fields. He makes consistent contact with quick hands and good extension. He needs to develop a better pre-pitch load and keep his weight back to continue to make strides at the plate. Overall strength will continue to help Jacoby develop and become a player at the next level.

Jacoby is a tall, solid OF who will graduate in 2012. In the OF, Jacoby is aggressive to the ball, his feet are fluid, and his hands are soft and sure. He has good lateral movements, he works behind the ball well, and he fields in an athletic position. Jacoby has a clean exchange, and he throws with a long / loose arm action with average strength to his target. Defensive grades can get better if Jacoby can raise his elbow and add arm strength and accuracy to his target. At the plate, Jacoby has a square / athletic set-up, a proper load, and a short stride. He has good bat control, average bat speed, and he makes square / consistent contact. Jacoby swings in good rhythm, and he puts the ball in play. Adding bat speed and using more lower 1/2 will help offensive numbers spike.
