09/07/2014 - College PREP - Indianapolis, IN Jake continues to show improvements in his baseball tools with the makings of a special type player at the next level. Defensive grade in the MIF has improved, now showing well above average abilities as he displays smooth / athletic actions. Hands / feet work well together through the fielding process and he moves well laterally, displaying range in the MIF. Throws are accurate with life and on line carry across the diamond as he gets rid of the baseball quickly. At the plate, hitting / power grades are now well above average through an athletic setup. Hands are quick, generating bat speed to and through a level swing path, creating extension. He shows a feel for the barrel with baseball exploding off the bat when centered, mainly to the pull side. On the mound, fastball showed some arm side run that gets in on the RHH. Breaking ball displays 10/4 shape with gradual break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup, showing a feel for with arm side run. Command/control are solid as he throws strikes with all his pitches and attacks hitters. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength.

10/20/2013 - National Tryout - Louisville, KY Bedwell continues to show on the mound and for the first time at SS where he currently projects best for the next level. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date, now a slightly above average runner at 7.45. Feet are quick / active as he works to square balls up, displaying soft / sure hands. He moves well laterally, displaying range in the MIF and shows smooth actions through the fielding process. For defensive grade to continue to improve, he needs to attack balls more while presenting hands out front. At the plate, Bedwell shows a squared / athletic setup. Hands are quick, flashing bat speed through a level swing path. He works to stay inside the ball, utilizing all fields. Power numbers will continue to increase as he learns to use his lower half more. On the mound, fastball shows a range of 78-79 mph. Breaking ball displays 10/4 shape with gradual break. Changeup is best off speed pitch, displaying a solid feel for with arm side run. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as more arm strength is developed and throws more strikes.

06/15/2013 - Omaha National World Series - Session 1 Jake is a young 2016 RHP that competed well in his first tournament setting with the Baseball Factory. On the mound, he touched 82 MPH with his fastball that showed run. He threw two other pitches for strikes with a 12/6 curve-ball, that had sharp action and a change-up with arm side run. He has strong baseball instincts, and throws a lot of strikes - making hitters take hacks. Offensively, he has a good setup and controlled load that gets him into a strong hitting position. Controlling his head will insure greater barrel accuracy and delivery to contact. We look forward to working with Jake as he develops into a strong prospect at the next level.

04/07/2013 - College PREP - Louisville, KY Jake is a young RHP with a solid build. On the mound, he has free/loose arm action from a 3/4 arm slot with sound control. He will benefit from a long toss program to help raise his velocity. With some more consistent tempo, and front-side extension, Jake will be a true competitor on the bump. Offensively, he has a square setup, and generates decent bat speed that makes balls jump off his bat when he centers at contact. He is a spray type hitter that is on-time and balanced throughout the swing. The freshman should continue improving his arm strength to be a promising prospect within the next couple of years.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
