08/02/2011 - Vero Beach Pro Select Training and Competition - 2011 (Pre-HS) Jake is an athletic 2017 graduate who plays SS. He throws from a low 3/4 arm slot and has a long/loose arm action. As a fielder Jake displayed quick feet with agile/playable range. He is a very athletic fielder but has a tendency to be overaggressive. If Jake works at a more controlled approach his athleticism will work for him and make him a great fielder. At the plate he showed an athletic/square stance, short stride, hands back/smooth (hitch) load, balance is centered and his lower half gets through. Also Jake showed fluid rhythm, he is on time and has a level swing path. As he gets stronger his hitting will greatly improve. Jake has a lot of potential but he needs to work hard at his baseball fundamentals. If he can match his baseball skills with his athleticism he will be a very good player.

05/08/2011 - Interactive Video Program - Atlanta, GA Jake is a young, thin SS that will graduate in 2017. Defensively, he shows good preps and presents hands well out front. Feet are active with hands and feet working well together in getting rid of the ball quickly with accuracy on his throws. He shows big play potential in the MIF. At the plate, Brown displays a solid setup and maintains balance throughout the swing. He makes consistent contact with hands working through the ball at contact, displaying extension. Jake is a projectable young player and can further improve with work on the following.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
