Official Scouting Report

12/04/2021 - Official College Recruiting Membership - Highland Park (DFW), TX Jake is an OF prospect who will graduate in 2022. Tall frame athletic build with strength present and is well pro-portioned. Ran a 6.56 60-yard dash. In the OF, gets good reads off bat and showed ability to cover ground in all directions. Flips his hips well and works behind/through the baseball with 1-hand high catch. He fields from an athletic/square fielding position, with glove out front, and has a clean gather off his right foot. Made consistent throws from a high 3/4 arm slot, with a quick release, and an arm velocity up to 86mph into infield. At the plate, he hits from an athletic and even stance. Athletic actions and natural juice in bat are evident. Gets hands separated, with a good hip turn, and an explosive barrel through the hitting zone. A flat barrel enables him to hit balls hard to the pull side with a bat exit velocity up to 91ph. Another year of development should afford Jake opportunities to play at the next level.

01/15/2021 - 2021 Baseball Factory Pre-Season All-America Tournament (TX) This LHH athletic (6'0"/175) OF continues to impress. With the bat, this lefty stands in well with an open stance, fluid rhythm and active hands to load. He has a good eye for the zone and doesn't swing at much that he cannot handle (drawing 4 walks in 9 AB's). Swing is explosive as he engages his strong lower 1/2 and creates good torque. The balls jumps when centered as he creates consistent/hard contact (exit velo = 96 mph). In the OF, he has active prep and gets great reads off of the barrel tracking the ball down with speed. He works behind and through the ball aggressively with a quick/clean transfer to throw. Duer is a very talented OF prospect who is one to keep an eye on in this his junior season.

06/06/2020 - 2020 Under Armour Showcase: Baseball Factory's National Texas Jake showed very well at the BF Texas Showcase against many of the top 21 grads in the state. He has excellent instincts both in the field and at the plate, and they showed during the event. At the plate he stalks pitches well with a hanging stride and he seems to time things up consistently. He found the barrel throughout batting practice and then singled hard to RF during the live at bats. Defensively Jake is instinctual - getting good reads, taking solid angles and closing quickly on balls. Those instincts, combined with his straight-line speed, should allow him to stay in CF at higher levels. He is a 2022 to continue to monitor closely.

01/17/2020 - 2020 Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament Jake is a lean OF who showed as a prospect at the Under Armour Pre Season All American Tournament. In the OF, defensive abilities are outstanding as he displays smooth / athletic actions. Feet are active as he takes proper routes / angles in tracking down balls. He works to get behind balls, playing through with momentum to his target. Range is a plus as he reads balls well off the bat and utilizes his quick feet (6.90 60 time), covering a lot of ground. Throws are accurate with on line zip (92 mph velocity) to his target. At the plate he continues shine, displaying outstanding hitting / power potential through an athletic setup. Hands are quick (88 mph exit velocity) and work to and through a short / direct / level swing path, creating extension. He has strength in his swing and he works to keep hands inside the ball, utilizing all fields with gap-to-gap pop.

10/06/2019 - College PREP - Grapevine (DFW), TX Jake continues to show as a prospect on the diamond. At the plate, he shows an athletic setup. Hands are quick (92 mph exit velocity) and work through an aggressive swing path. He has strength in his swing and shows a feel for the barrel with gap-to-gap pop. In the OF, defensive abilities are now well above average as he continues to shine. He utilizes his quick/aggressive feet as he moves well laterally, displaying range as he covers a ton of ground. He displays smooth / clean actions with hands / feet working well together through the fielding process as he gets rid of the baseball quickly. On the mound, he has a good overall delivery, a good arm action, and he rotates his hips through to his target. Fastball with arm side run / sink. Breaking ball displays 2/8 shape with gradual break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup with sinking action. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program.

01/18/2019 - 2019 Baseball Factory All-America Pre-Season Rookie Tournament Jake is a thin and athletic 2022 2-way prospect that was eager to learn. In the OF, Jake is on time with his prep step, he has a good first step to the ball, and has good routes to the ball. He works behind the ball, creates momentum in his lower half, and makes accurate throws. At the plate, Jake starts in an open stance and loads his hands back into the drive position. He gets his front foot down on time, attacks the inside part of the ball, and creates backside rotation with his lower half. He has a pull side approach and makes consistent contact. On the bump, Jake shows confidence in his pitches and has a deceptive delivery. He gets balanced over the backside, separates on time, and has a loose arm action. He sinks his 2-seam fastball and has a 1-7 break on his curveball. Developing a change up would be a game changer for Jake. Jake is very coachable and we hope to see his progress in the future.

11/04/2018 - College PREP - Plano (DFW), TX Jake is a young, lean, OF/LHP who showed nice improvements since his last workout. Offensive skills are solid, he stands in with a tall approach, good balance, and a short/square stride. He swings in good rhythm with plus bat speed, and makes square/consistent contact. In the OF, Jake has active feet, presentable hands, and he fields the ball cleanly. He attacks aggressively, takes proper angles, and throws with momentum from a quick arm action to his target. Playing lower and with smoother footwork can help defensive skills improve. On the mound, Jake shows a simple rock step and gathers to a balance point over the rubber. He separates his hands on time and works with a loose arm action, getting good extension through his release. Jake shows a three pitch mix with his fastball topping out at 77mph with arm side run and sinking action. Breaking ball sits at 67mph with sharp 12-6 break. Changeup sits from 70-71mph with sinking action as he throws with deceptive arm speed. Jake can improve as a pitcher by long tossing to build up his arm strength. Overall, Jake is a talented prospect who will be one to follow going into his freshman season.

07/17/2018 - College PREP - Highland Park (DFW), TX Jake is a lean, athletic OF who has a promising future on the diamond. Foot speed is above average as indicated by his 60 time of 7.19. At the plate is where he shows best, displaying well above average hitting abilities with solid power potential through a squared setup. Hands are quick (80 mph exit velocity) and work through an aggressive approach. He shows a feel for the barrel and stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields with gap-to-gap pop. In the OF, he displays smooth / clean actions. He utilizes his feet well in tracking down balls through proper routes / angles. He needs to work to get behind balls and play through with momentum to his target. Range is a plus as he moves well laterally and covers a lot of ground. Throws are accurate with carry but will benefit by building more arm strength through a long toss program. With 4 years to further develop, Jake has the makings of a special type player with time and room to progress his game.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
