10/26/2016 - Under Armour SoCal Classic, powered by Baseball Factory's Team One Jake is a strong right handed catcher who will graduate in 2018. Behind the plate, his best asset was his arm (82 mph raw velocity), which was loose and accurate on his throws down to 2nd. His hands worked well when both receiving and blocking, as did his footwork. Offensively, he showed pop to his pull side, as his hands were loaded on time and worked to the baseball quickly. While his hands worked quickly, he at times got around the ball, something that can be easily worked on through repetition of taking shorter swings. Overall, Jake shows great tools on both sides of the ball and will be exciting to track over the next few years.

10/02/2016 - College PREP - Kansas City, KS Jake continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities with a promising future on the diamond. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date, now a solid runner at 7.34. Behind the plate, feet are aggressive and active as he works in line to his target, through a clean transfer / exchange as he gets rid of the baseball quickly. Pop times showed in the low 2.00 second range with accuracy and carry on his throws. Receiving / blocking tools show as playable tools as he continues to develop and get more reps. At the plate, he shows a closed setup. Hands are quick (84 mph exit velocity) and work through an aggressive approach. He has strength in his swing and stays inside the baseball utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. Power will improve as he works to utilize his lower half more efficiently. Jake will make a grat addition to a college program in 2018.

06/05/2016 - College PREP - Kansas City, KS Faust continues to progress on the diamond. Offensively, this RH swinger steps into the box looking to swing it. He whips the barrel quickly on a short/direct path as squares the ball up. He creates extension through contact and drives the ball on a line. Behind the plate - Jake sits in with athletic/quiet actions tracking the ball into a soft mitt with good pocket awareness. He is quick laterally and bodies up pitches in the dirt. Throws down the 2B are accurate. At 3B - he shows active footwork and takes good angles around the GB. He makes the backhand play cleanly and fires accurately across the diamond. Playing through the ball while gaining more ground will help to get more into his throws. A 2018 grad - Jake has a solid skill-set and should find success on the diamond.

12/27/2015 - Baseball Factory Christmas Camp & Tournament at Pirate City - Session 2 Jake is a 5'11/155 lbs sophomore C/3B that showed good aptitude at the Baseball Factory Christmas Camp & Tournament at Pirate City. Defensively behind the plate, he works around the ball to receive with strength in his wrists and centers the ball on his chest to block. He threw on-line to 2B, and with added arm strength and a more clean exchange will see his pops start to drop. At 3B, he had a good idea of the position and got his body into position to make plays, on-time. His arm played well across the diamond, and he projects well at either spot. With the stick, he was loose through the zone with the barrel, generating good bat speed with core rotation. His actions were fluid and he was direct down to contact flashing signs of pop. During cage sessions he worked on keeping his balance through the swing and staying through the ball with his top hand. In all - Jake is an intriguing prospect that has time on his side to fine tune his game for the next level.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
