Official Scouting Report

09/04/2020 - HS All-Region Tournament Jake continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date, now a 7.07 runner. At SS, defensive abilities are solid as he displays smooth / athletic actions. Feet are active as he works around balls and plays through with his body. Glove action is clean and presents well out front. Range is a plus as he moves well laterally and covers ground. At the plate, hitting / power potential have improved through a squared setup. Hands are quick (85 mph exit velocity) and work through a level swing path. He has strength in his swing and shows a feel for the barrel through a line drive approach. On the mound, arm strength has improved as he threw his top velocity to date at 81 mph. Fastball shows arm side run with late life. Breaking ball displays 10/4 shape with gradual break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup but throws too hard, resembling fastball. Control is solid as he throws strikes with all his pitches. Stock on the mound will continue to improve as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program.

12/20/2017 - Baseball Factory Winter Classic - Session 1 (Ages 12-14) Jake is an athletic 2022 SS/OF prospect. At SS, Jake presents a low/early glove, works from the ground up, and funnels the ball to his arm slot. He makes clean double play feeds and throws from multiple arm angles. At the plate, Jake starts in an athletic stance, strides onto a soft front side, and has a simple approach. He has rhythm in his hands and keeps his head down at contact. Continuing to get the hands into the launch position, and attacking the inside part of the ball will help keep his barrel on plane. Jake is a coachable player that made several adjustments throughout the week. Jake will continue to improve with experience and hope to see his progress in the future.

10/15/2017 - Interactive Video Program - Birmingham, AL Jake is an athletic, 2-way player at SS/OF. Defensively at SS, he makes active cuts/angles as he works into a low/athletic fielding position on GB's. He funnels the ball with smooth/soft hands and has a clean exchange to throw. In the OF, he hustles well as he tracks down hard-hit fly balls. He works through the GB and makes accurate throws to his target. With the stick, Jake shows an athletic setup with fluid rhythm to load. His lower 1/2 works well as he swings on-plane through the zone and is a solid contact hitter. Overall abilities in his game will improve with work on the following.

Infield
1. Prep step
2. Work around GB
3. Arm strength (long toss)
Outfield
1. Quick 1st step
2. Work behind the fly ball
3. Play through more
Offense
1. Improve bat speed
2. More lower 1/2 drive
3. Contact points

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
