Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • 1B/RHPPosition Projection

07/28/2014 - National Tryout - Gaffney, SC Jake continues to progress on the diamond. Offensively, this RHH shows an athletic setup with fluid rhythm. He delivers the barrel with whip and bat speed, connecting and driving the ball with pop. He likes the pitch middle in and will turn on it with authority. On the mound, Jake repeats his delivery and works in-line toward the plate. He utilizes his strong lower 1/2 and drives off of the rubber. At 1B, he maintains active footwork as he moves well around the bag. He fields the ball cleanly with sure hands. A strong bat - this versatile athlete can make things happen on the diamond.

11/08/2012 - Baseball Factory Training & Competition at Pirate City Jake is a tall, lanky 1B/RHP that will graduate in 2016. On the mound, delivery is sound / repeatable, allowing his arm action to work loose / free to the plate. Fastball shows a range of 68-71 mph with arm side run. Breaking ball displays 10/4 shape with gradual break. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as more arm strength is gained and he improves his control. At 1B, he displays proper footwork around the bag with clean hands. He needs to attack ball more while presenting hands more out front to continue to improve defensive grade. At the plate, Holtzer shows a balanced approach with rhythm. Hands are loose and he makes consistent contact, mainly to the pull side. He needs to work to stay inside the ball to utilize all fields and improve hitting grade. Power numbers will continue to improve as he learns to use his lower half more. Mental makeup is a plus as he very coachable and plays with a lot of positive energy. With 4 years to further develop, Jake has abilities with time and room to improve.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
