Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • LHP/1BPosition Projection

12/27/2015 - Baseball Factory Winter Classic - Session 2 Jake is a hardworking, coachable player who is a ‘team first' type guy. On the mound, arm strength has improved as he threw his top velocity to date at 72 mph. He shows good mound presence and composure. Fastball shows good tailing action. Breaking ball displays 1/7 shape with depth. Control is a plus as he attacks hitters and throws strikes with all his pitches. At 1B, he is a solid receiver, displaying clean hands and proper footwork around the bag. Abilities at 1B will improve as he develops his foot speed and works to present his glove to field the GB more out in front. At the plate, he shows a squared / balanced setup. Hands are loose and work through a level swing path. He makes consistent contact through a line drive approach, mainly to the pull side. Power numbers will increase as he utilizes his lower half more. With 5 years to further develop, Jake has an upside on the mound and will be a sure player to follow.

07/14/2015 - Baseball Factory National World Series at Pirate City - Session 1 Jake showed exceptional actions on all sides of the baseball at the Pirate City National World Series. Defensively at 1B, he took a good first step and threw with a clean arm stroke. He communicated well and showed some life to his throws. At the plate, he tracked the ball well to contact and generated decent bat speed to hit. He worked to shorten his path, becoming more direct with greater pop. On the hill, he threw his FB from 68-70, spun a 12/6 CB from 58-59, and showed a CH with flashes of depth from 56-61. He was mechanically sound, smooth with his delivery and repeated with good front side work. His lower half worked through to add velocity and he has the ability to pitch at a high level as he increases strength. All in all - Jake is an intriguing LHP/1B that is entering his freshman year this fall with a lot of upside.

03/12/2015 - Yankees Spring Training Experience Jake is a talented 2-way player (1B/LHP) who showed very well during his time at Yankee Spring Training. With the bat, this LHH shows a balanced setup with rhythm to load. Hands work back into a strong launch position as he's ready to jump on pitches that he likes. Swing path is level/compact as he drives to and through the zone, hitting line-drives. Working to let the pitch on the outside corner travel deeper into the zone will aid in his development offensively. At 1B, Jake is athletic and works quickly around the GB. He has sure hands with clean actions. On the mound, this LHP has an effective 3-pitch mix. FB shows slight arm-side run ranging from 65-68 mph. Arm work fluidly/easy as he repeats his delivery well. Working to drive his lower 1/2 off the rubber and finish out in front with extension will help to improve effectiveness on all pitches. Jake is a very respectful and hard working individual who has a bright future ahead of him in the game.

05/25/2013 - Little League® Experience - S. Williamsport Jake displayed some nice skills in Williamsport. He has good arm strength, agility and fielding ability. On the mound Jake has solid mechanics, a good tempo and his ball has a lot of movement. He needs to finish his pitches more athletically (get chest out over front leg/lengthen stride). At the plate Jake has a good aggressive lower half but he needs to be balanced and be more direct with his hands to the ball.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
