Official Scouting Report

  • RHP/3BPosition Projection

01/17/2014 - Under Armour Pre-Season All-America Tournament Lynn has a good presence with length to his frame at 6-foot-4 and 185 pounds. He topped at 82 this outing, and featured arm side run to his fastball. He also showed a curve and a change, both in the upper 60s and from a slightly lower slot than his FB. With work to maintain his direction as his arm works forward he will be able to stay behind these pitches longer, and can create some action down in the zone. Defensively, he played a little high and from the top down. Can work to get his glove lower and more out front, and to play through the ball with momentum to the target. At the plate, he was short and quick to the ball and did a good job of hitting the ball to all fields. Can work to get his weight transferred forward thru contact to help level out his shoulders and his swing path. Overall an interesting pitching prospect, has natural tailing action to FB to go with long frame and secondary pitches with potential to develop.

07/09/2013 - National Tryout - Minneapolis, MN Lynn continues to show as a RHP/SS but currently projects best on the mound where he has improved his abilities. Arm strength has improved as he threw his top velocity to date, topping out at 86 mph. Fastball showed a range of 79-86 mph with arm side run. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with gradual break. He slows arm speed on his changeup, tipping off pitch to hitters. Control is a plus as he throws strikes with all his pitches. At SS, he works to square balls up, displaying clean hands and make the routine plays. He needs to increase foot speed and attack ground balls more to continue to improve defensive grade. At the plate, he shows a balanced setup. Hands are loose and work inside the ball as he makes consistent contact. Power numbers will continue to improve as he learns to use his lower half more.

12/27/2012 - Pirate City Christmas Camp and Tournament Jake is a young, tall, solid, RHP who also played some SS in Pirate City. On the mound, Jake has a long arm action, good size, and level shoulders. He will need to improve his balance, avoid throwing across his body, and finish off his pitches in order to improve mound effectiveness. At SS, Jake has soft hands, efficient footwork, and he fields athletically. He has a long arm action and throws with consistency and average strength across the diamond. Fielding further out front and not rushing can improve defense. Offensively, Jake has a square set-up, a square stride, and average bat speed. He makes square contact, swings in good rhythm, and has some pop in his bat. A shorter swing, better pitch selection, and more lower 1/2 will improve hitting.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
