01/12/2018 - 2018 Baseball Factory All-America Pre-Season Rookie Tournament Jake is a talented and hard-working 2021 1B prospect. On the bump, Jake has an active prep step and a clean exchange. Continuing to present a low/early glove and understanding positioning off the bag will allow him to make the routine play more consistently. At the plate, Jake has a simple approach and loads his hands back into the drive position. He uses his backside and shows power to the pull side. Continuing to attack the inside part of the ball and staying balanced through contact will allow him to drive the ball to all fields. Jake will continue to improve with experience and we hope to see his progress in the future.

11/19/2017 - College PREP - Marlborough (Boston), MA Jake showed nice overall improvements both defensively and offensively during his workout in Boston. Behind the plate, Jake has quiet hands, a soft body to block, and he smothers the baseball well. He sits in low, has a clean exchange, and some accuracy to 2nd base. At 1st base, Jake showed agile movements to the ball, soft hands, and athletic actions. He moves well around the bag and has a loose arm action to his target. Offensively, Jake hits from a strong base, he loads properly, and swings in good rhythm. He has fast bat speed, makes square contact, and uses his lower ½.

12/27/2016 - Baseball Factory Winter Classic - Session 2 Jake is a very coachable player who worked hard on his skills during his time at the Winter Classic. Behind the plate, Jake shows fluid feet as he moves to center the ball when receiving and blocking. He sits in a square stance to the pitcher and receives the ball with firm hands. He has a short arm action to throw from a high 3/4 angle and keeps his throws consistent to his target. Jake can improve as a catcher by getting down to block quicker and by staying low when moving to throw. At the plate, Jake shows plus power to all fields from the right side. He sets up in a square, athletic stance and takes a short stride to the ball. He gets back into his load well and comes through the zone with his lower half, leading to fast bat speed. He displays solid bat control which leads to hard, consistent contact. Jake can improve as a hitter by developing more rhythm in his load and by letting the ball travel deeper into the zone. Overall, Jake is a talented prospect who has the time and potential to further develop his skills.

11/13/2016 - Interactive Video Program - Marlborough (Boston), MA Jake is a great 2-way player at the C/1B position. Behind the plate, he receives pitches with a soft glove. He gains ground with a clean exchange to throw down to 2B. At 1B, he gets into an athletic position as he fields groundballs. His feet work well as he tracks the ball with his backhand glove. With the bat, Jake loads with a short stride. He has a clean bat path as he drives the ball with pop. Overall abilities in his game will improve with work on the following.

Infield
1. Soft hands
2. Play through
3. Arm strength
Catching
1. Quicker footwork
2. Range
3. Low target
Offense

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
