03/17/2019 - College PREP - Tomball (Houston), TX Jake is a strong C/3B prospect who will graduate in 2021. Behind the plate, Jake shows active footwork and centers the ball when blocking. He sits in an athletic stance and receives with soft hands. He makes a clean exchange and gets rid of the ball quickly, keeping his throws accurate with carry through the 2B bag. Staying low when moving to block can help Jake improve as a C. At 1B, Jake shows efficient footwork and covers ground well. He gets into an athletic position and fields the ball out in front of his body. He makes a clean exchange and gains momentum well on his throws, keeping them accurate and on-line to his target. Jake can improve as a 1B by consistently playing low to the ball. At the plate, this RHH sets up in a crouched stance and takes a short stride. He gets into his load and leads well with his lower half. He barrels up the baseball and drives to all fields. Taking a level swing path can help Jake improve as a hitter. With two more years to develop, Jake has the time and potential to further progress his skills on the field.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
