Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • 2BPosition Projection

01/30/2022 - Official College Recruiting Membership - Plano (DFW), TX Jake is a 2B who will graduate in 2023. Long frame athletic build with strength present and room to add strength throughout. At 2B, good reads off bat enable him to create good fielding angles with fluid/active footwork. He works right to left and fields from a low/square fielding position, with a good glove presentation, and has a low funnel. He made on-line throws consistently from a high 3/4 arm slot and an arm velocity up to 83mph across the diamond. Showed good touch on his DP feeds. At the plate, he hits from an athletic and square stance. Tries to get his hands separated and keeps his weight between his knees. Hit line drives to all fields with a bat exit velocity up to 78mph. With another year of continued growth and development, we foresee Jake making huge strides on the baseball field.

11/05/2017 - National Tryout - Plano (DFW), TX Jake continues to work hard on his skills. With the bat, this righty displays an athletic setup waiting for a pitch he likes. He hits the ball where it's pitched and sprays it to all parts of the field. More power is there as he learns to utilize his lower 1/2 more. At SS, Jake takes a quick first step and is aggressive to come and get the GB. He works low and through the ball, with a clean exchange to throw. Continuing to develop his foot speed and lateral quickness will aid in his defensive development. On the mound, this RHP works to a tall balance point with smooth separation firing a 3-pitch mix. FB is still in the mid 50's while breaking ball shows 10/4 shape. Working to stride square and finish with more extension out over his front side will help to improve overall abilities on the mound. Only a 2023 grad - Jake has skills with a lot of time to develop.

11/13/2016 - Interactive Video Program - Plano (DFW), TX Jake is a young, 2-way player at the RHP/SS position. At SS, he takes aggressive angles on slow rollers hit to him. He presents his hands out in front with a clean exchange to throw. On the mound, this RHP fills the zone with strikes. He repeats his delivery and keeps hitters guessing with his CB that he throws for strikes. At the plate, Jake is a great contact type hitter. He sprays the ball to all parts of the field as he extends through contact. Overall abilities in his game will improve with work on the following.

Defense
1. Loose actions
2. More range
3. Lateral quickness
Pitching
1. Stronger frontside
2. Finish
3. Long toss
Offense
1. Develop a load
2. Bat speed
3. Lower 1/2 drive

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
