06/23/2019 - National Tryout Plus - Hagerstown, MD Jake ran his fastest 60 to date (6.87 seconds) and raised arm velocity (85 MPH) during his last workout with The Factory. In the OF, Jake shows active feet, he covers ground well, and he works through the ball properly. He makes plays, hands are firm, and he throws with a strong/accurate arm to his cut off man. Offensively, Jake is a strong hitter with good balance and fast bat speed. He has athletic actions, a short/direct barrel, and he uses his lower 1/2. Jake is a nice prospect who continue to show improvements.

01/18/2019 - 2019 Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament Jake continues to show a promising future on the diamond. At the plate, he continues to show as a switch hitter with similar abilities from both sides from a squared setup. Hands are quick (90 mph exit velocity) and work through an aggressive swing path. He has strength in his swing and shows a feel for the barrel with power showing best to the pull side. In the OF, he shows smooth / clean action. He utilizes his quick/aggressive feet as he takes proper routes / angles in tracking down balls. Range is a plus as he moves well laterally and covers a lot ground. Throws are accurate but will benefit by building more arm strength through a long toss program.

10/21/2018 - College PREP - Potomac, MD Jake continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities and has a promising future on the diamond. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date, now a 7.35 runner. In the OF, defensive abilities are now well above average as he is aggressive in taking proper routes / angles in tracking down balls. He works to get behind balls and plays through with momentum to his target. Hands / feet work well together as he gets rid of the baseball quickly with zip (80 mph velocity) on his throws. In the MIF, defensive abilities have improved, now showing well above average abilities as he displays smooth / athletic actions. Feet are active as he works to square balls up but needs to attack more and play through with his body. Glove action is soft / sure and presents well out front. At the plate, he continues to show as a switch hitter but projects best as a RHH where he has improved the most. Hands are quick (80 mph exit velocity) and work through a level swing path. He has strength in his swing and shows a feel for the barrel with the baseball jumping off the bat when centered.

03/11/2017 - Hitting Accelerated Training Weekend (Ages 12-14) Jake is an athletic 2021 grad who continued to improve his ability at the plate during our Accelerated Hitting Camp. He has an Athletic setup from both sides of the plate, creates good rhythm and is a very consistent switch hitter. He is very balanced and uses his lower 1/2 very well. Jake will continue to work on his swing path to stay more compact and his weight transfer from the left side of the plate.

12/27/2016 - Baseball Factory Winter Classic - Session 2 Jake is a coachable player who worked hard on his skills during his time at the Winter Classic. At the plate, Jake sets up in a square stance and takes a short stride to the ball. He is smooth getting back into his load and comes through the zone well with his lower half. He takes a direct swing to the ball with fast bat speed, leading to consistent contact and line drives. Jake can improve as a hitter by loading more and by getting more hand separation. Overall, Jake is a solid prospect who has the time and potential to further develop his skills.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
