01/13/2017 - Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament Jake continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities and is a prospect on the diamond. Behind the plate, feet are active as he gains ground and works through a clean / transfer exchange as he gets rid of the baseball quickly. Pop times have improved as he threw his lowest time to date at 1.93. Throws display accuracy and on line carry through his target. He will control the running game with his feet / arm. Hands are soft as he lets the ball travel and tracks well, sticking in the zone. He shows off his athletic abilities through the blocking process and is a wall behind the dish. At the plate, he continues to shine where he has outstanding hitting with near pro level power potential. Hands are quick and work through an aggressive swing path. He has strength in his swing and shows great barrel accuracy with gap to gap pop. Jake has the makings of a special type player and will get looks from the collegiate coaches with his baseball abilities.

10/12/2016 - Arizona Senior Fall Classic Jake is a solid, athletic catcher who has a promising future on the diamond. Behind the plate, feet are aggressive and active as he works in line to his target, through a clean transfer / exchange as he gets rid of the baseball quickly. Pop times 2.00 - 2.10 with accuracy and carry on his throws. Arm strength is outstanding as indicated by his top velocity of 88 mph. Receiving / blocking tools show as quality tools that will play well at the next level. At the plate, he continues to shine through an athletic setup. Hands are quick (93 mph exit velocity) and work through an aggressive approach. He has strength in his swing with baseball jumping off the bat when centered. Barrel accuracy is a plus with power showing best to the pull side. Jake has the makings of a special type player and will get looks from the collegiate coaches with his baseball abilities.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
