02/17/2020 - College PREP - Beverly Hills (Detroit), MI Jake continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities and has a promising future on the diamond. At 3B, defensive abilities are now well above average as he displays smooth / fluid actions. Feet are active as he works around balls and plays through with his body. Glove action is soft / sure and presents well out front. Range is a plus as he moves well laterally and covers a lot of ground. Throws are accurate with on line carry across the diamond. Behind the plate, pop times have improved as he threw his lowest time to date at 2.01. He gets rid of the baseball through a quick transfer / exchange with accuracy and carry (84 mph velocity) on his throws. Hands are soft / sure and he sticks balls in the zone. He utilizes his body well through the blocking process, centering balls well out front. Receiving / blocking skills show as quality tools that will play well at the next level. At the plate, he continues to shine through a squared setup. Hands are quick (86 mph exit velocity) and work to and through a level swing path. He works to stay inside the ball, utilizing all fields with gap-to-gap pop.

02/18/2019 - College Recruiting Day - Beverly Hills (Detroit), MI Jake is a solid, athletic 3B/C who has a promising future on the diamond. Behind the dish, he utilizes his feet well in working in line to his target through a clean transfer / exchange. Pop times show a range of 2.17-2.40 with accuracy and zip (85 mph velocity) on his throws. Time will continue to drop as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program and works to get rid of the baseball quicker. He displays a soft glove and sticks balls well in the zone. He uses his body through the blocking process, centering balls out front. At, 3B he displays clean / smooth actions. Feet are aggressive as he attacks balls but needs to play through more with his body. Glove action is soft / sure and presents well out front. Range will increase as he improves foot quickness. At the plate, he continues to shine through a squared, athletic setup. Hands are quick (86 mph exit velocity) and work through an aggressive swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields and shows a feel for the barrel with power showing best to the pull side. Power will continue to increase as he utilizes his lower half more efficiently. With 2 years to further develop, Jake has potential and will get looks from the collegiate coaches as he continues to progress his game.

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
