01/18/2019 - 2019 Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament Jake is a talented/athletic OF who can make things happen in a variety of ways on the diamond. In the OF, he takes a quick first step, works on the balls of his feet and covers a ton of ground with speed (6.81). Actions are athletic/smooth as he works through the ball has and has a quick exchange throw. Throws show life and accuracy into his target. With the bat, this righty displays an open stance with centered balance. He gets to a strong launch position and swings with quick hands. He connects with pop and drives the ball to the gaps (exit velocity = 87 mph). Steels has what it takes to play at a very high level.

07/18/2018 - Under Armour Southwest Championships 16U, powered by Baseball Factory's Team One Jake continues to show a promising future on the diamond. In the OF, as he displays smooth / fluid actions. Range is a plus as reads balls well off the bat and covers a lot of ground. He works to get behind balls and plays through with momentum to his target. Throws are accurate to his target but will benefit by building more arm strength through a long toss program. Range is a plus as reads balls well off the bat and covers a lot of ground. At the plate, he continues to shine through a squared setup. Hands are quick (8 mph exit velocity) and work through a level swing path. He works to keep hands inside the ball, utilizing all fields with gap-to-gap pop. At the event, he was 4 for 8 with a 2B. Mental makeup is a plus as he has a great personality, is very coachable, and plays the game hard.

04/29/2018 - College PREP - Fairfield (Sacramento), CA Jake is a talented outfield prospect who has an athletic build. As a right-handed hitter, Jake has an athletic setup with a centered balance. He has smooth rhythm with a fluid load and short, square stride that is on-time. Jake shows explosive bat speed with a direct swing path producing hard contact. He has the ability to use the whole field and the ball jumps off his bat. Jake has above average power and can drive the ball to each gap. In the field, Jake plays with active footwork and effective angles showing good range. He presents his glove and fields the ball in a square position. Jake has a clean exchange leading into a loose arm action throwing from a 3/4 arm slot. He plays with good momentum through the baseball showing consistently strong, online throws. Overall, Jake has an above average skill set on both sides of the ball and is certainly a prospect to watch.

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
