06/06/2017 - 2017 Under Armour Showcase: Baseball Factory's National Texas Jake continues to show improvements in his baseball tools and has a promising future on the diamond. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date, now a well above average runner at 6.17. At the plate, he con-tinues to shine. He has fluid rhythm while getting good hand separation. Barrel is whipped through the zone (82 mph exit velocity) as he connects with strength. The ball jumps off of his barrel through a line drive approach. With flexion and good sway he pockets pitches with a soft/sure mitt. Pop times remain in the low 2.00 range. A talented prospect - he will make things happen both behind the dish as well as with the bat.

02/19/2017 - College PREP - Tyler, TX Jake is a talented catching prospect who has a tall, lean build and graduates in 2018. Behind the plate, Jake looks the part and has a low, athletic setup presenting a solid target. He moves swiftly laterally and creates effective angles with active footwork. Jake has a clean exchange leading into a short, loose arm action throwing from an over the top slot. His throws are consistent and strong to 2B indicated by his 1.94-2.11 second POP times. As a right-handed hitter, Jake has a square stance with a centered balance. He has smooth rhythm and a good load with a long stride. He has an on-plane swing path producing square contact. Jake is a contact hitter who has the ability to drive the ball to each gap. Overall, Jake plays the game athletically and has good potential to become an impact player at the next level.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
