Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • C/OFPosition Projection

05/13/2018 - College PREP - Spokane, WA Jakob is a lean C/OF who has a promising future on the diamond. At the plate is where he shows best, displaying outstanding hitting / power potential through an open setup. Hands are quick (83 mph exit velocity) and work to and through the baseball, creating extension. He has strength in his swing and shows a feel for the barrel with gap-to-gap pop. Behind the plate, feet are active as he works in line to his target through a clean transfer / exchange. Pop times showed a range of 2.14-2.22 with accuracy / carry on his throws. Hands are soft / sure and he tracks balls well through the receiving process. He uses his body well through the blocking process, centering balls out front. Receiving / blocking skills show as outstanding tools that will play well at the next level. In the OF, defensive abilities are well above average as he displays smooth / clean actions. He takes proper routes / angles in tracking down balls. He reads balls well off the bat but will benefit in working to get behind balls more to play through with momentum to his target. Range will increase as he improves foot quickness. Jakob has the makings of a special type player and will get looks from the collegiate coaches with his baseball abilities.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
