01/12/2018 - 2018 Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament Jalen seemed to take well to heading out of the cold of Illinois to sunny, warm Arizona for the UAAAPS Tournament. The indoor winter workouts had him well-prepared, allowing him to flash high-level tools and use them in game play. Jalen took an excellent batting practice with consistent, hard line drive contact throughout. He showed quick hands and an easy, clean stroke. There was little wasted movement and he got the barrel to the ball in a hurry. This carried over, as he went 3-5 in games with a double, 2 RBI singles and a walk. Defensively, Jalen displayed sure hands and solid instincts in the infield. He has plenty of arm for the left side of the diamond, as evidenced by his 93 mph raw arm strength. At 62, 170 pounds this Missouri commit has more maturing to do and looks to be developing into a special player.

12/04/2016 - National Tryout Plus - McCook (Chicago), IL Jalen continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities and has a tremendous future on the diamond. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date, now a well above average runner at 7.09. At the plate is where he has improved the most, now showing outstanding hitting / power potential through an athletic setup. Hands are quick (84 mph exit velocity) and work to and through a short / level swing path, creating extension. Barrel accuracy is a plus as he utilizes his lower half well with baseball exploding off the bat when centered. He works to stay inside the ball, utilizing all fields with gap to gap pop. In the MIF, defensive abilities are well above average as he shows smooth / fluid actions. Feet are active / aggressive as he attacks balls and plays through with his body. Glove action is soft /sure as he presents well out front. Range is a plus as he moves well laterally and covers a lot of ground. Hands / feet work well together through the fielding process as he gets rid of the baseball quickly with accuracy / carry on his throws across the diamond. With 3 years to further develop, Jalen has the makings of a special type player and will get looks from the collegiate coaches with his baseball abilities.

01/15/2016 - Baseball Factory All-America Pre-Season Rookie Tournament Jalen is a talented athlete who continues to shine. Defensively, he shows active prep and moves well on the balls of his feet covering a ton of ground laterally. He gathers well and has a clean exchange firing strong throws with carry across the diamond. As a hitter - Greer shows a simple/relaxed setup with a strong base. He whips the barrel on a level path, squares the ball up and drives the middle of the field. Jalen has a ton of upside and will be one to keep an eye on over the next couple of years.

07/24/2015 - Baseball Factory National World Series at Pirate City - Session 2 Jalen is a talented, versatile player with a bright future ahead of him. Defensively, he showed plus range with advanced skills at his age. His clean, quick hands allow him to have an effortless exchange and quick release. At the plate, Jalen hits from a square stance with a smooth stride/load. He has explosive hands, strong bat control and plate discipline. Staying locked in and in line with the pitcher will allow Jalen to have a more repeatable swing. Jalen shows excellent upside with quiet confidence. In all - this versatile player has a bright future ahead of him.

12/07/2014 - Interactive Video Program - McCook (Chicago), IL Jalen is an athletic MIF who has a tall/projectable frame and a solid all around skill-set. With the bat, this RHH shows a balanced approach with patience. He has rhythm to load and waits for his pitch. Swing path is level and quick to and through the zone. He connects and extends through his finish. He hits the ball where it's pitched and uses the entire field. At SS, Jalen puts his athleticism on displays. He moves quickly around the through the ground ball with smooth actions. Exchange is quick as he throws accurately across the diamond. Overall abilities will improve with work on the following.

1. Shorten swing path
2. Contact points
1. Arm strength (long toss)
2. Lateral footwork

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "present" abilities (tools), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year, using the scale below. However, grades 10-18 are not available for use with High School players (ages 14-18), while grades 55-70 are not available for use with Pre High School players (ages 12-14). These instances are marked as "--- N/A ---" in the "Description" fields below.
