08/03/2017 - Baseball Factory Pro Select Training & Tournament at Historic Dodgertown (Ages 14-18) Jalen continues to show steady progress in his baseball abilities. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date. At 1B, he shows smooth clean actions. He displays proper footwork around the bag and is a quality receiver. Glove action is clean but needs to present more out front. Range will increase as he continues to improve foot quickness. At the plate, he shows a squared setup. Hands are quick and work through a compact swing path. He has strength in his swing and shows a feel for the barrel with power showing best to the pull side. Power will continue to increase as he utilizes his lower half more efficiently. At the event, he was 4 for 9. On the mound, arm strength has improved as he threw his top velocity to date at 69 mph. Fastball showed a range of 67-69 mph. Breaking ball displays 1/7 shape with early break. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program.

05/21/2017 - College PREP - New Orleans, LA Jalen is a strong LHP/1B prospect. At 1B, Jalen has active pre-pitch movement and gets his feet in the proper position when turning DP's. He tracks GB's into his mitt and gathers well. At the plate, this LHH displays a balanced stance and makes hard contact to his pull-side. If he continues to work to swing on a shorter/more direct path, it will increase his bat whip resulting in increased pop. On the bump, Jalen has good rhythm in his delivery and tries to make adjustments pitch to pitch. He says directional toward the dish and repeats well. If he continues to pitch downhill and follow through in his delivery, he'll be able to pound the lower half of the zone. Driving his backside toward the plate and landing on a strong front leg will allow him to increase velocity as well. Only a 2020 grad, Walker has a solid skill-set with upside on the diamond.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
