Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • 2B/RHPPosition Projection

01/18/2019 - Baseball Factory Spring Training in Arizona (Ages 12-14) James is an athletic and talented 2025 2-way prospect with high energy. At 2B, James presents a low/early glove, works from the ground up, and has a clean exchange. He has good footwork on double plays and makes accurate throws. He needs to continue to be on time with his prep step, build arm strength through his throwing program, and improve his first step to the ball. At the plate, James starts in an open stance, has a simple load with his hands, and keeps the barrel on plane. He's aggressive on the fastball and competes each at bat. He needs to continue to create backside drive with his lower half, attack the inside part of the ball, and keep his head down at contact. James was supposed to pitch as well but he had a slight arm injury prior to that appearance. James is a hard worker, with tremendous ability, and we hope to see his progress in the future.

08/17/2018 - Interactive Video Program - Sioux Falls, SD James is an athletic, 2-way player who plays 2nd base and RHP. Defensively, James has active feet, agile movements, and he presents his glove well. He has good range, fields cleanly, and throws with accuracy across the diamond. On the mound, James has a clean arm action, a compact delivery, and he finishes in a square position toward home. At the plate, James has square set-up, good balance, and he gets good extension through the ball. He swings on plane, can spray to all fields, and he rotates his hips through properly. James can improve overall skills with work on the following.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
