  • C/RHPPosition Projection

08/05/2019 - Baseball Factory Pro Select Training & Tournament at Pirate City (Ages 14-18) James is a tall and lean 2021 2-way prospect that was eager to learn. Behind the dish, James presents a good target but needs to be in a more balanced primary and work behind the ball. When throwing, he has a good arm and a clean exchange. Gaining ground, staying directional in his footwork, and having a quick release will improve his accuracy. When blocking James needs to anticipate the ball in the dirt and try to control the ball with his chest. At the plate, he starts in a tall stance and has good plate coverage. He has an opposite field approach and keeps the barrel on plane. He needs to continue to load his hands back and create backside drive with his lower half. James will continue to improve with experience and we hope to see his progress in the future.

04/28/2019 - Accelerated College PREP - Plymouth Meeting (Philadelphia), PA James is a tall C/RHP prospect who will graduate in 2021. Behind the plate, James shows efficient footwork and gains ground when blocking. He sits in a low stance and presents a good target. He makes a clean exchange and gets rid of the ball quickly, keeping his throws accurate with carry through the 2B bag. Making a quicker exchange can help James improve defensively. At the plate, this RHH sets up in an athletic stance and takes a square stride. He gets into his load and barrels up the baseball well, leading to solid line drives. James can improve as a hitter by working a smoother rhythm into his load. On the mound, James separates his hands on time and works with a clean arm. He stays inline towards the plate and finishes with his chest over his front knee. James shows a four pitch mix with his fastball topping out a 72mph with tailing action. Curveball sits from 57-59mph. Slider sits from 62-64mph. Changeup sits from 60-62mph. Gathering to a balance point over the rubber can help James improve as a pitcher. With two more years to develop, James has the time and potential to further progress his skills on the field.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
