02/14/2016 - College PREP - Sanford (Orlando), FL James continues to progress on the diamond. With the bat, this RHH shows a balanced setup with patience as he tracks pitches into the zone. Swing is level/repeatable as he works to engage his lower 1/2 and drive the ball back up the middle of the field. Behind the plate, James sits in with quiet actions and sticks pitches in the zone. He moves well laterally bodying up pitches in the dirt. Gaining more ground toward 2B and strengthen his arm (long toss) will help to lower pop times. In the OF, James hustles to his right and left to track down balls hit into the gaps. Foot speed has improved as he now runs his 60 in 7.34. He secures the ball and has a clean exchange to throw. A 2018 grad - James still has time to develop to get to where he wants to be.

07/30/2015 - Baseball Factory Pro Select Training & Tournament at Historic Dodgertown Dicks continues to show as a very coachable player that is willing to make adjustments, as he is a student of the game. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date. Behind the plate, he showed his best pop time at 2.37. Receiving / blocking skills continue to show as playable tools as he continues to develop and get more reps. His blocking during the games stood out as a strength for him. Working on arm strength will be a key for him and his development. At the plate, he shows a squared setup with balance and tracks the ball well. Hands are loose and he makes consistent contact as he works to stay inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a solid line drive approach.

04/19/2015 - College PREP - Tampa, FL James is a young (2018 grad) 2-way player (C/OF) who has a strong build (5'10"/140). Behind the dish, he sits in well and tracks the ball into his mitt. He is quick around pitches in the dirt, centering them off of his chest. Exchange is clean with accurate throws to 2B (pop times of 2.45). Times will continue to drop as he develops quicker footwork and increases his arm strength. In the OF, James hustles into position behind the fly-ball. He secures it, gathers well and works in-line toward his target. Developing a quicker transfer/exchange will help to get the ball out of his glove and to his target sooner. Only a freshman, James has time to develop and room to grow.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
