Official Scouting Report

  • 5Class Rating
  • 1B/LHPPosition Projection

08/18/2019 - College PREP - Providence, RI James is a thick, solid, 2-way player who will graduate in 2020. At first base, James moves well around the bag, he presents his glove, and makes plays consistently. He covers ground, his exchange is clean, and he throws with carry and accuracy to his target. Defense can improve with more pre-pitch actions and playing a little lower. On the mound, this LHP has good balance over the rubber and a clean arm circle. He separates his hands on time, he has a controlled landing toward home, and throws strikes. Added arm strength and sharper off-speed will improve pitching. Offensively, James has a square/athletic set-up, good balance, and he swings in good rhythm. He loads well, makes hard contact, and he uses his lower body. Letting the ball travel deeper will help solid hitting get even better.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
