08/01/2021 - Baseball Factory National World Series at Pirate City - Session 2 (HS) James continues to show as a prospect on the diamond. At 2B, he displays smooth / athletic actions. Feet are active as he works around balls and plays through with momentum to his target. Glove action is soft / sure and presents out front. At the plate, he continues to shine through a squared setup. Hands are quick (84 mph exit velocity) and work through a level swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. Lower half works well through the swing and shows a feel for the barrel. At the event, he was 3 for 7 with a 2B and sac fly. On the mound, arm strength has improved as he threw his top velocity to date at 77 mph. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with gradual break. Stock on the mound will continue to improve as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. Mental makeup is a plus as he is very coachable and works hard to be the best player he can be.

02/27/2021 - All-In Membership - Ruther Glen (Richmond), VA James is a tall, athletic 2B/RHP who has a promising future on the diamond. At 2B, defensive abilities are outstanding as he displays smooth / fluid actions. Feet are active as he attacks balls and plays through well with his body. Glove action is clean and presents well out front. He moves well laterally with range improving as he improves foot quickness. At the plate, he continues to shine, displaying outstanding hitting / power potential through a squared setup. Hands are quick (85 mph exit velocity) and work through an aggressive swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields with gap to gap pop. On the mound, FB ranges from 70-74 mph. Breaking ball shows 11/5 shape with gradual break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup and shows a feel for pitch with arm side run. Stock on the mound will continue to improve as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. James has a lot of potential and will get looks from the collegiate coaches with his offensive and defensive abilities.

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
