06/05/2022 - Official College Recruiting Membership - Hoover (Birmingham), AL James continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date, now a 7.12 runner. In the OF, he displays smooth / fluid actions. Feet are active as he works to get behind balls but needs to play through with momentum to his target. Glove action is firm and presents out front. Throws are accurate with carry (80 mph velocity) but will benefit by building more arm strength through a long toss program. At the plate, he shows a squared setup. Hands are quick and work through an aggressive swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. Power will increase as he utilizes his lower half more efficiently.

03/14/2021 - Official College Recruiting Membership - Montgomery, AL James continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date, now a 7.21 runner. In the OF, defensive abilities have improved as he shows smooth / fluid actions. He takes proper routes / angles in tracking down balls. Feet are active but needs to work to get behind balls more to play through with momentum to his target. Range is a plus as he moves well laterally and covers a lot of ground. At 1B, he displays proper footwork around the bag and he is a quality receiver. Feet are active but needs to attack balls and play through with his body. Glove action is clean but needs to present more out front. Throws are accurate but will benefit by building more arm strength through a long toss program. At the plate, hitting / power potential has improved through a tall setup. Hands are loose and work through a level swing path. He makes consistent contact through a line drive approach. Power will increase as he utilizes his lower half more efficiently.

11/17/2019 - National Tryout Plus - Montgomery, AL James continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. In the OF, defensive abilities have improved as he displays smooth / clean actions. He takes proper routes / angles in tracking down balls. He works to get behind and plays through with momentum to his target. Range will increase as he continues to improve foot quickness. At 1B, he displays proper footwork around the bag and he is a quality receiver. Glove action is clean but needs to present more out front. Throws are accurate but he will benefit by building more arm strength through a long toss program. At the plate, he shows a tall, closed setup. Hands are loose and works through a level swing path. He makes consistent contact through a line drive approach with power showing best to the pull side. Hitting grades will continue to improve as he works to get stride foot down sooner to work on time. Power will increase as he utilizes his lower half more efficiently.

06/09/2019 - National Tryout Plus - Hoover (Birmingham), AL James lowered 60 time (7.39 seconds), raised velocity (68 MPH), and showed offensive and defensive improvements during his last workout with The Factory. In the OF, James shows good athleticism, quick/fluid feet, and agile movements to the ball. He covers ground, fields squarely, and throws with accuracy to his cut off man. At 1st base, James has active feet and he fields out in front of his body. He moves well around the bag, makes plays, and gains momentum when throwing to his target. Offensively, James improved both hitting and power grades to 32's. He has quick hands, an athletic stance, and fast bat speed. James makes hard/consistent contact and he uses his lower body well.

12/27/2018 - Baseball Factory Winter Classic - Session 2 (Ages 12-14) James continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date. In the OF, defensive abilities have improved as he displays smooth actions. Feet are aggressive as he takes proper routes / angles in tracking down balls. He reads balls well off the bat and works to get behind balls but needs to play through with momentum to his target. Throws are accurate but needs to build more arm strength through a long toss program. At the plate, he shows a tall setup. Hands are quick and work through an aggressive swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach, flashing gap-to-gap pop. Power will increase as he utilizes his lower half more efficiently. At the event, 2 for 8 with a 2B and 3B. Mental makeup is a plus as he is very coachable and plays the game hard.

11/18/2018 - Interactive Video Program - Montgomery, AL James is a tall, thin, OF with good athleticism. Defensively, James fields aggressively, his footwork is efficient, and he makes the routine plays consistently. He plays through some, his exchange is clean, and he throws with some accuracy to his target. Offensively, James has a tall set-up, a short stride, and quick hands. He tracks well, throws the barrel, and makes level/consistent contact. James can continue to improve good skills with work on the following.

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
