05/24/2015 - College PREP - Wappinger Falls, NY James is a tall, strong RHP that will graduate in 2016 with a promising future on the mound. Delivery is repeatable as he uses his lower half well, allowing his arm action to work long and free to the plate through a 3/4 arm slot. Arm strength his solid as indicated by his top velocity of 83 mph. Fastball shows a range of 78-81 mph. Breaking ball displays 3/9 shape with sweeping action and across break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup, but is too close to fastball velocity and needs to develop more movement on pitch. Control is solid as he throws strikes with all his pitches and locates to both sides of the plate. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program and develop better off speed stuff. James has a lot of potential and will catch the eyes of the collegiate coaches with his abilities on the mound.

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
