08/23/2015 - College PREP - Farmingville (Long Island), NY Jimmy continues to show growth from outing to outing with Baseball Factory, applying coaching and implementing his tireless work ethic. Defensively in the OF, he is quickening his feet (7.19 sixty) and strengthening his arm (81 raw velo), making plays with greater ease and feel. He is working through the ball more aggressive to help his arm play even better and he still has upside with work. Offensively, he was direct to the zone with the barrel and had strength at contact. He allows the baseball to travel deep in the zone and rotates his core to help boost the bat speed. In all - Jimmy is the type of player we love to track, showing progress time and time again.

12/27/2014 - Baseball Factory Christmas Camp & Tournament at Pirate City - Session 2 Jimmy showed improvements to almost all aspects of his game at the Baseball Factory Christmas Camp & Tournament at Pirate City. Offensively, he showed good pitch selection, and hit a double in the second game. He worked to loosen his actions and become more consistently on-time. Defensively, he worked to the ball and threw with accuracy and flashes of carry. He made plays with the glove out in front as he works through the ball. Overall - Leach is a very coachable player that is continuously engaged and ready to work.

07/17/2014 - Cape Cod Select Training & Competition - Session 2 James showed good actions and a positive attitude at the Cape Cod Select Training & Competition with Baseball Factory. Defensively, he made plays with ready hands and carry to his throws. He showed an ability to make adjustments throughout the course of the week and implemented drill work in his game play. Increasing his arm strength further, and becoming comfortable taking his head off the ball to make plays in the gaps will increase play ability. Offensively, he had quick actions and generated good bat speed with a direct path. His timing struggled at times, due to a double load. With more work, James needs to be sure to trust his work and swing the bat with authority. In all - Leach is a quiet player that works hard and shows improvement time in and time out.

12/07/2013 - Hitting Accelerated Training Weekend (Ages 14-18) Jimmy is a strong athletics hitter who show potential as a hitter. Jimmy shows very good hands during the swing, but he tends to get long during the swing causing him to get out and around the baseball leading the hitting the ball to the pull side all the time. Also Jimmy doesn't hesitate to swing the bat, he takes his swings and doesn't get cheated. Jimmy needs to work on his lower half, and not spinning off the baseball and driving through the baseball. Also his bat tends to start too vertical causing his barrel to drop during the swing at times.

02/22/2013 - Yankees Spring Training Experience (Ages 14-18) James is an OF who has a stocky build. He showed improvements in every area of his game since we last saw him in New York. Defensively in the OF, he maintains active footwork and works to get behind the fly-ball. He takes decent angles and catches the ball at its highest point. Getting on a long toss program will help to increase his arm-strength which will benefit him greatly in the OF. As a hitter, James displays a square setup and simple approach. He swings on a level path and gets his lower 1/2 through. He gets good extension through contact which helps him to hit line-drives. Relaxing his grip and a smoother load will both help with his abilities at the plate. As a 2016 graduate, Leach still has time and room to improve.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
