12/10/2021 - Baseball Factory Academic All-American Tournament James continues to show improvements on the diamond with his baseball abilities at the Academic All American. Behind the plate, feet are active as he works in line through a clean transfer / exchange. Pop times showed in the 2.13 range with accuracy / carry (87 mph velocity) on his throws. He shows a squared setup and presents a soft mitt out front. He utilizes his body through the blocking process, centering balls well out front. At the plate, he shows a squared setup. Hands are quick (86 mph exit velocity) and work through level swing path. He makes consistent hard contact through a line drive approach. Lower half works well through the swing and shows a feel for the barrel. On the mound, fastball shows a range of 78-80 mph with cutting action. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with gradual break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup but throws too hard, resembling fastball. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program.

12/27/2020 - Baseball Factory Recruiting Classic James is an athletic C/SS prospect who showed well during the Recruiting Classic. Behind the plate, James sits in a relaxed stance and receives with a quiet glove. He has a clean exchange and gains ground well on his throws, keeping them strong/accurate through the 2B bag. He is efficient moving to block and keeps the ball in front of him. At the plate, this RHH sets up in a square stance and takes a short stride. He is controlled getting into a small load and remains centered in his lower half. He works through a level swing with fast bat speed, producing strong line drives. Overall, James is a talented prospect who has the potential to contribute at the next level.

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
