Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • RHP/OFPosition Projection

06/19/2015 - USA Baseball 17U Championships James showed strong ability, especially on the mound, at his most recent outing with Baseball Factory. He threw his FB from 84-86, spun an 11/5 CB from 66-72, and showed a sinking CH from 71-74. He was mechanically sound, gathering over the rubber and worked fast with his tempo. He was compact and clean with his actions to repeat his delivery and pitched to contact. Offensively, he worked the barrel on a direct path and got good extension through the baseball. He stayed in his legs to generate bat speed and hit off a stiff front side to get leverage. Defensively, he worked well to the baseball with efficient feet and was sure to secure the baseball. He took a good first step and made routine plays with ease. In all - James is a great kid that plays the game hard and respects his teammates and coaches.

10/24/2014 - 2014 Under Armour So Cal Classic Upperclass Participant FB sat 80-81 with arm side run and good down plane, topped at 83. Showed feel for a sharp breaking ball with downward action in the upper 60s. Deceptive delivery. Worked quickly, threw strikes with FB and off speed. Has right handed raw power power, swing looks a little stiff but he applies strength at contact and has ability to drive the ball.

10/22/2014 - Under Armour SoCal Classic, powered by Baseball Factory's Team One James is a very gifted 2017 two-way player, RHP/C that can swing it. Offensively, he has good balance throughout his strong swing and he flashes present pop. He drives his hands and hips together to the ball and worked to keep his head centered for maximum barrel accuracy. Behind the dish, he received with sure hands in front and used his feet to throw down to 2B posting pops in the low 2's. He works well with the pitching staff and is quick down to his knees to block, gaining the trust of pitchers to toss their breaking ball. On the other side of the battery, he mixes three pitches - FB, CB, and CH. He tops out at 86 on the mound, but showed a velo of 92 mph off the crow hop. He is mechanically sound, free with his arm action and able to repeat his delivery. All in all - Notary is a great kid that has tremendous ability with years left to strength.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
