Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • RHP/SSPosition Projection

12/28/2017 - College PREP - Swarthmore (Philadelphia), PA James is a solid, athletic, 2-way player who pitches and plays SS. On the mound, James stands over the rubber well, he has a quick/clean arm action, and he gets good extension on his pitches. He lands with good direction, his CH shows well, and he competes in the zone. Mound effectiveness can improve if James can sharpen mechanics, finish more completely, and sharpen CB/SL. At SS, James has playable hands and feet, he fields in a square position, and he has a strong/accurate arm across the diamond. Smoother feet, softer hands, and fielding farther out front will help defense get better. Offensively, James has a tall/athletic stance, quick hands, and fast bat speed. He has a line drive approach, makes square contact, and he uses his lower body. Letting the ball travel deeper, less hand movements, and improved timing will help hitting numbers spike.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
