Official Scouting Report

07/27/2018 - Baseball Factory National World Series at Pirate City - Session 1 (Ages 14-18) James is an athletic and talented 2019 2-way prospect that made several adjustments throughout the week at Pirate City. At SS, James is on time with his prep step, presents a low/early glove, and creates angles to the ball. He anticipates the ball off the bat and works from the ground up. Continuing to practice game like throws in his throwing program will increase his ability to throw from multiple arm angles and on the run. At the plate, James starts in an open stance, loads his hands back into the drive position, and hits off a firm front side. He's aggressive on fastballs and keeps a simple approach. He needs to continue to attack the inside part of the ball and stay balanced through contact. On the bump, James gathers over the rubber, separates on time, and extends thru his delivery. He needs have some action on the fastball and create run on his changeup. He works fast and throws hitters off balance. James will continue to improve with experience and we hope to see his progress in the future.

12/28/2017 - College PREP - Swarthmore (Philadelphia), PA James is a solid, 2-way player who will graduate in 2019. Defensively, James has active feet, he fields in a low/square position, and he moves well laterally. He has a good backhand, a clean exchange, and an accuracy arm with carry to his target. If James can field farther out front, get rid of the ball quicker, and play more through, defensive numbers can further improve. On the mound, James stands over the rubber well, he has good body control, and lands in a square position. He competes in the zone with his pitches can finish in a complete position. Sharper mechanics, more lower body, and added arm strength can help mound effectiveness improve. At the plate, James has an athletic stance, quick hands, and a still head. He makes contact and hits hard to the pull side. Hitting numbers can get better if James can improve timing, balance, and barrel accuracy.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
