02/22/2013 - Yankees Spring Training Experience (Ages 14-18) Gregory has a large frame with good length along with some width in his shoulders. On the mound, his arm worked well from the glove and out front. His delivery was balanced and had some fluidity. He threw his FB in the low to mid 70s, and spun a low 60s breaking ball that showed promise. As he gains more feel for this pitch and with normal velocity gains, it will pick up sharper action with better depth. At the plate, he hits from an open stance and he has some rhythm to hit. Hands and body loaded up pretty well, allowing him to reach a solid hitting position prior to moving towards the ball. His stride tended to land a bit open, causing him to lose the energy stored in his core. Result was an armsy move through the zone. Path was mostly level and fairly direct, just does not take full advantage of the leverage available from his frame. Defensively, he got in position and showed some idea to play through the ball. Hands were a little deep, and he tended to play high. Arm stroke was short, and he carried the ball across the infield well. A more likely fit at 1B, but his ticket may well be on the mound - his arm is young and fresh, and it works very well in conjunction with a sound delivery and some feel for a breaking ball.
