Official Scouting Report

08/05/2013 - Baseball Factory National World Series at Pirate City - Session 2 Davis is a hard nosed, fast running OF who showed well at Pirate City. Offensively, Jared is an aggressive hitter with a proper load and a level swing. He makes contact consistently and flashes pop in his bat. He needs to work on keeping his hands back and not lunging at the ball, and on shortening his stride and quieting his actions. The power potential is definitely there though. In the OF, Jared shows good speed, a quick first step, and he fields in a square position. He has a loose arm action to his target, but will need to take better angles, improve his reads, and sharpen his throwing accuracy for defense to improve. More repetition in game scenarios will help him learn to apply his athleticism more to his position. Jared is very projectable and if he can work on being more compact in all facets of his game, then he will certainly improve, as he has a great work ethic and is very coachable, as well as naturally athletic.

05/12/2013 - College PREP - Glen Allen (Richmond), VA Jared is a tall, athletic OF that will graduate in 2014. Foot speed is superior as indicated by his 6.64 60 time, which is all the more impressive considering he is 6'3, 190. He utilizes his quick, athletic feet well in taking proper routes / angles in tracking down balls as he works to get behind balls well through an aggressive approach. For defensive grades to continue to improve, he needs to play through balls more. Throws are accurate but must get on a long toss program to build more arm strength and lengthen arm swing. At the plate, Davis shows a squared, balanced setup. Hands are quick, flashing bat speed through a level swing path. Power numbers are outstanding when he centered the baseball with ball exploding off the bat. He needs to develop a consistent swing path and keep two hands on the bat to continue to improve hitting grade. Jared has a lot of potential and will catch the eyes of the collegiate coaches with his athletic abilities.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
