Official Scouting Report

  • SS/RHPPosition Projection

03/08/2015 - College PREP - Indianapolis, IN Jared has a positive resume with Baseball Factory - showing an upward trend of growth throughout his participation at events. Most recently, his athletic and lean frame project him nicely for either the shortstop, or RHP position at the next level. His rhythm to field, clean footwork, and easy arm suggest the potential for him to remain in the 6 hole at the next level. He prepped his feet well, got good jumps on the ball and was accurate to throw. Offensively, he had good balance and generated good bat speed to and through the zone. He stays in the middle with his aggressive approach and with increased control of his body will remain through contact consistently - eliminating any over-rotation. On the hill, he threw a FB and a sinking CH, both with good deception. His arm is live and he works a quick tempo with his body. In all - Jared has a great frame and fundamentals to help a program at the next level.

02/22/2015 - National Tryout - Dayton, OH This talented 2-way player continues to shine. At the plate, this RHH has fluid rhythm to load with smooth actions. Swing is quick through a short/direct path as he connects and drives the ball on a line. He hits the ball where it's pitched with the ability to drives the gaps. At SS, he takes good angles working around the GB as he presents and fields the ball out in front. Arm works free/easy as he whips accurate throws into his 1st baseman's chest. On the mound, FB gets out of his hand and onto hitters, cracking the mitt at 86 mph. He throws a 'heavy ball' and keeps it down in the zone. Changeup has run and compliments FB well. A 6'2"/180 athlete will make things happen when he steps onto the diamond.

02/09/2014 - National Tryout - Mobile, AL Jared continues to impress on the diamond. Offensively - he shows plus abilities with the bat. Through a well balanced approach he has smooth rhythm and gets back into a strong loaded position. The ball jumps off of his bat as he drives it to all parts of the field. At SS, Jared works low and through the ball, moving right to left. He has quick actions and gains ground toward 1B. On the mound, he works fluidly to a tall balance point and drives off of the rubber. He fills up the zone and throws strikes with all 3 pitches. His arm works fluid & free and he maintains smooth tempo. Drayton should find success on the diamond.

01/17/2014 - Under Armour Pre-Season All-America Tournament Jared is an intriguing prospect with a lengthy/projectable build. Defensively at short, he fields the ball after creating good angles and throws with life to first. He has a quick release and good footwork to throw. Working his hands further in front will enable more sure handedness and ball security. Offensively, he hits from a solid base with a direct barrel and good extension. He attacks the zone aggressively after getting to a strong hitting position and uses his natural 6'2" leverage for plus pop. On the bump, he throws a FB/CB and SL, mixing pitches and changing speeds effectively. In all - Drayton proved to be a student of the game that has strong upside.

12/01/2013 - College PREP - Pensacola, FL Jared is a lean, athletic SS/RHP that will graduate in 2015. Currently, he projects slightly better on the mound for the next level but has a ton of potential in the MIF. On the mound, delivery is sound / repeatable as he uses his lower half well and works on time which allows his arm action to work long and well to the plate through a high 3/4 arm slot. Arm strength is outstanding as indicated by his top velocity of 86 mph. Fastball shows a range of 84-86 mph with arm side run. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with depth and late break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup, showing a feel for with arm side run. Off speed stuff show as quality pitches that will get outs. Control is outstanding as he throws strikes with all his pitches and locates to both sides of the plate. At SS, defensive abilities are solid as he displays smooth / clean actions. Feet are active / aggressive as he moves well laterally and works to square balls up, displaying soft / sure hands. He works around and plays through the ball well with his body. For defensive grade to continue to improve, he needs to improve foot quickness and work to get rid of the baseball quicker. At the plate, he shows an athletic / squared approach and he tracks the ball well, displaying well above average hitting abilities with solid power. Hands are quick, generating bat speed to and through a level swing path, creating extension. He shows a feel for the barrel with the baseball jumping off the bat when centered. With 2 years to further develop, Jared has the makings of a special type player and will catch the eyes of the collegiate coaches, possibly as a two-way guy.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
