Official Scouting Report

  • LHP/1BPosition Projection

11/08/2019 - Baseball Factory Select Training & Competition in Arizona (Ages 14-18) Jared is a young LHP/1B that will graduate in 2022. On the bump, Jared shows a FB/CB mix showing some cut action on the FB and a 2-8 gradual break on the CB. Pitching, he shows comfort on the mound working from only the stretch and gathers over the rubber well. His separation is fluid and on time as he works downhill creating good acceleration. He keeps his stride in line to the target and slightly falls off to the 3B side. He is aggressive in the zone and executes pitches when ahead. At 1B, Jared shows active footwork with a + first step getting to the ball and works hard to create good angles getting into a squared fielding position. He fields the ball out front with sure hands and makes clean exchanges to throw. His momentum is at the target getting rid of the ball quickly and makes accurate throws around the diamond. Hitting, Jared sets up slightly open with high hands and gets a small load to start the swing. He gets his foot down on time getting the barrel on plane early and makes consistent contact with a gap to gap approach. Jared has a solid foundation in the field and on the mound with several more years to develop.

01/21/2019 - College PREP - Mesa (Phoenix), AZ Jared is a RHP/1B prospect who will graduate in 2022. On the mound, he gathers over the rubber and separates his hands on time. He stays inline towards the plate and extends through on his release. Jared works with a 4 pitch mix with his fastball topping out at 65 mph. Breaking ball sits from 60-62mph with 11-5 break. Changeup sits from 58-60mph with slight sinking action. Slider has tight spin and short break. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. In the field, he shows efficient footwork and covers ground well. He fields the ball out in front with soft hands and makes a quick exchange to throw. He gains momentum well on his throws and keeps them accurate to his target. Jared can improve defensively by fielding the ball on the balls of his feet. At the plate, this LHH sets up in an athletic stance and takes a short stride. He gets back into his load well and drives through with his lower half. He works to barrel up the baseball and makes consistent contact. With three more years to develop, Jared has the time and potential to further progress his skills on the field.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
