11/07/2013 - Baseball Factory Select Training & Competition at Pirate City Jared showed primarily as a C at his most recent Baseball Factory outing. Behind the dish, he focused his work on blocking and throwing, and flashed his lowest pop to date - 2.60 seconds. He can continue to lower his pop by strengthening his arm and cleaning up his exchange. Receiving out in front and anticipating balls in the dirt will make him a bit quicker to block. At the plate, he has an open stance and has decent bat speed. He focused on his rhythm and timing showing an ability to make an adjustment getting a base hit in his fifth at bat. Overall - Jared is a good kid that enjoys the game, and has a couple years to develop.

08/05/2013 - College PREP - Bear (Wilmington), DE Jared is a (5'5/136 lbs) C/1B who graduates in 2017 graduate. Behind the plate, Jared sits in well, works around and sticks while receiving the pitch. Jared has a high 3/4 arm slot while having a clean exchange giving him an accurate throw to 2B. When Jared stays low and works in-line toward 2B his pop times will lower. Jared blocks ball in the dirt, while working on dropping down with both legs. At the plate, Jared has a square tall set up, he attacks each pitch and stays up the middle. Jared has a short stride toward the pitcher and should continue utilizing his lower half and hands direct to the ball giving a swing path for consistent pop off the barrel. Playing 1B, Jared plays loose towards his glove side. He has natural instincts at 1B while fielding every ball clean and gets his feet set for good accurate throws and will work on consistent footwork around the bag. A talented young player, he has the focus for development and it looks like the game comes easy to him.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
